Conservatives Defending Liberty

Are you really prepared to survive if your local or state government collapses? Because as I have said before, they can and may very well start to collapse soon. A new report out from the Pew Center pointed out some pretty stark numbers. If your state government goes under, what would that do to you? Are you prepared to survive  should the government collapse?

In the report you can see an alarming trend. 10 states are headed down next year, these 10 states contain over 1/3 of the entire population of the country. California is of course on the top of the list, once the 8th largest economy in the world by itself, the state now has a predicted budget shortfall of between $12.4 and $14.4 billion next year. That is on top of the almost $8 billion in federal government guaranteed loans. Now hold that thought for a minute, the Democratic health care bill would add several billion in new expenses to California’s deficit as most of the coverage is coming from expanded Medicare which the states help to pay for. Ooops! California is not alone, Arizona, Michigan, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, Oregon, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Wisconsin round out the worst or the worst. If one of those states tumble, it will start a chain reaction that will really get ugly. The first reaction is to go to the federal government with hat in hand wanting money, indeed most of the Stimulus money went to prop up states that were going bankrupt. This is how Obama is claiming his “saved” jobs.

Assuming we have no outside forces influence the economy like Israel bombing Iran which is all but certain at some point, unless these states get a bucket of money under a bridge they will not be able to come close to paying their bills. California was already giving out IOU’s for a period of time this year. Imagine not having anyone working in state or local offices, who will process things like your drivers license or what if you have a problem with your water service and no one is in the public utilities office except on Wednesdays? How long do you think things would last if social programs get cut harshly? Cut 25% or more from welfare checks, cut back on unemployment checks because the state has no money, start charging people more for rent in public housing projects, now what? Is civil unrest possible? How about probable. Is crime going to go up? Bet on it. Is violent crime going to go up? Bank on it. Driving a nice car that is expensive may be all the reason someone needs to be mad at you and to act out against you or your family. Walking out of a mall and finding windows busted out of your Porsche won’t be so nice. People need to understand these kinds of things do and will happen and they will only get worse if things deteriorate further, which they will.

If you live in a small town, maybe things won’t come to you as fast, but you have to leave there some time. Regardless of where you live are you prepared to defend yourself? I hope the answer is yes. Do you have an alarm system on your home? Its not a bad idea. Do you have enough food to not go to the store for 2 weeks? Do you have extra fuel for your vehicles in an emergency? Even 10 or 20 gallons, do you have it? Do you have enough cash on hand to live for a month without going to the bank? Do you have alternative sources for things like heat? Whats happens when the gas line stops working and no one comes out in January or February? Can you handle most medical emergencies for yourself and your family without depending on the outside for help? The list of things that could go wrong is almost endless and that is where Mr.Murphy lives.

Lets be clear here, I am not talking about terrorism or a melt down in the Middle East with the price of oil. All I am talking about is state and local governments either cutting way back or going under. Local and states government is interwoven into most every thing from trash collection to water delivery. They plow the snow, they put out the fires, they answer 9-11 calls. Can you take care of yourself and your family if they don’t provide those services for you? If the answer is no, you had better get a plan, fast. If you answered yes, good for you. Just make sure you have all the supplies you may need, food, bullets, fuels,whatever it may be, just make sure you have it. If you are somewhere in the middle, try to cover yourself as best as possible. Buy a few extra items when you can, pick up an extra box of shells or buy a couple packs of batteries, just start soon like now. There are very few economists that think things are done getting worse, most believe unemployment will continue to rise for some time yet and then worst of all it will stabilize but not go down for an extended period of time. Survivalists face different challenges and in many ways greater challenges than they did in the past.  In the past during the cold war you had a shelter, stocked it with supplies, had some guns and ammo and a portable radio and you were ready to ride it out. I am sad to say, the good old days are gone. It won’t be that simple, this time around. And the outcome could be just as bad if not worse.
